Thống kê phân bố số ngày nắng nóng tập trung từ tháng 4-9/2016
Miền Đông Nam Bộ có số ngày nắng nóng nhiều nhất cả nước với 77 ngày.
Tiếp đến là Trung Trung Bộ (75 ngày),
Nam Trung Bộ (65 ngày),
Bắc Trung Bộ (62 ngày),
Đông Bắc Bộ (trong đó có Hà Nội) xảy ra 42 ngày nắng nóng…

Sở dĩ, năm 2016 trở thành năm nắng nóng kỉ lục là do nước ta đang trải qua thời kì El Nino đạt cực đỉnh. Sang năm 2017, các chuyên gia khí tượng nhận định khả năng hiện tượng El Nino vẫn tiếp tục ảnh hưởng đến thời tiết nước ta.

Theo lịch mùa, đến ngày 20/4, các tỉnh miền Bắc mới lập hạ nhưng từ khoảng đầu tháng 4, nắng nóng đã xảy ra trên diện rộng ở khu vực Tây Bắc Bắc Bộ và các tỉnh từ Thanh Hóa đến Thừa Thiên-Huế với nhiệt độ cao nhất trong ngày ở khoảng 35-38 độ, một số nơi trên 39 độ C.
Thời gian có nhiệt độ trên 35 độ từ 12-16 giờ
